Description:

The Does it Work project is exploring the connections between teacher professional development in mathematics and student achievement. The project, which begins January, 2007, will be exploring three research questions:

  • What did the teachers learn from their professional development experiences?
  • Assuming there was learning, did teachers’ practice change as a result of participation in the professional development?
  • Assuming that teachers’ practices changed, were there measurable changes in students’ understanding that could be attributed to the changes in teacher practice?
In essence, we are looking at how professional development might impact teachers’ knowledge and practices as well as whether those practices matter for student performance.
